Kids have a blast making Sushi

  • 10-06-2011

Our kid’s sushi making class during the Easter school holidays was a great success. Nine children attended the class, ranging in ages from seven to eleven years. The kids made a lovely sushi platter which they were able to take home to share with their families that evening.

Some people have a preconceived notion that making sushi is difficult, but this is not strictly true, and you don’t need to be a professional sushi master to make a wholesome and delicious sushi meal. All of our young apprentice sushi makers picked up the technique quite quickly, and it was really wonderful to see the kids having fun whilst learning a new skill at the same time. Kids love sushi, and they love being actively involved in food preparation.  And the best thing about our classes is that everyone gets to eat what they make.

Our kids cooking classes cost just $50 per child. As the cost of a sushi platter is also $50, I am essentially providing the kids with a free cooking lesson. Whilst this practice has my accountant scratching his head, I am delighted to do it as I am passionate about teaching people how to make healthy food. And I know that each child I teach has the potential to go on and inspire their friends and family about healthy eating as well. Who knows, maybe one of my junior sushi trainees will open their own sushi restaurant one day?!

Perhaps an adult sushi making class will be next on the menu? Please contact me if you are interested in participating.

Until next time…
